Disability Inclusion Profiles

Through Disability Inclusion Profiles, government schools apply for additional funding to support eligible students with disabilities and high learning needs. Applications for funding are made by the school, in collaboration with families and carers, teachers, allied health staff and Student Support Services, to develop a strengths based profile of a student’s interests, needs and personalised learning strategies.

Student Support Group (SSG) meetings are held at least once each term to ensure regular communication between the teacher and family/carer. The Wellbeing and Engagement Leading Teacher will usually attend and allied health providers can also be included. The SSG will make decisions about how best to provide support to a student, to ensure they feel happy and safe, are able to access the curriculum and continue to learn. The SSG will also establish and review an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which outlines a student’s strengths and challenges, to understand how they best learn, and agree on learning goals that are reviewed at each meeting, to ensure student progress.

The range of possible supports may include additional classroom support from Education Support staff, access to intervention programs or social skills groups, a modified curriculum, access to the Lunchtime Activities Program, observations from allied health, social stories and a range of other classroom based strategies and supports, depending on need.
